Constructing exhibition booth is never an easy task. Especially when it comes to a prestigious event like VIIF, you may find it difficult to come up with an acceptable booth design. In that case, it would be wise to stick to the fundamentals of design. It will give you the crucial guideline for a decent – looking booth. In this article, let’s discover what these fundamentals are and how you can use them when constructing exhibition booth at VIIF.
Vietnam International Industrial Fair (VIIF) 2024 is scheduled from 28 – 30/8 at ICE Hanoi. As its name suggested, VIIF focused on Industrial Machinery and Equipment; Machine Tools;… Over 350 firms would display their best products at the exhibition, making it one of the largest industrial fairs.
The fundamentals of design still maintain its value no matter which branches of design you are working on. Especially when it comes to constructing exhibition booth at VIIF, these 7 principles must be learned by heart.
Balance creates a sense of satisfaction and stability. Don’t take it from me, take it from one of the most prominent book authors, Alan Lightman. When it comes to symmetry – the most common type of balance, he commented: “symmetry represents order, and we crave order in this strange universe we find ourselves in”. The bias toward balance is coded in our genes. You should keep this insight in mind when constructing exhibition booth.
Most of us are more familiar with the “usual” balance, symmetry. There are actually 3 methods to achieve balance:
Imagine looking at yourself in the mirror. In a symmetric design, both sides have the same features, from scale to appearance.
Sounds very contradictory, doesn’t it? How can asymmetry even represent balance at all? But it can, and this is called asymmetrical balance. Asymmetrical balance is created through visual weight manipulation. The end goal is still to build a sense of stability and harmony.
Radial symmetry refers to the designs in which elements are evenly placed around one central point.
In contrast designs, two or more elements with completely opposite features are put next to each other. These designs are very effective tools when you need to attract visitors’ attention. For example, you can use contrast elements on long – range graphics to catch visitors’ attention from afar.
Like contrast, emphasis also aims to draw visitors’ attention to a certain point in the booth. Emphasis can be achieved with the adjustment of light and color. For example, if you need to highlight a product, simply focus more light on it.
A sense of movement can be created through the manipulation of art elements. It aims to produce an illusion that these elements are moving in the image. In an exhibition booth, this effect can be used as a natural directional guide.
For example, when constructing exhibition booth, you can use a straight line with triangles on it for navigational purposes. That way, the space transition would be smooth since the signs are not needed anymore.
Pattern is created if one or more elements are repeated over and over. The right use of patterns can create a unique appearance for your booth.
Rhythm is created by organized repetition of different elements. It aims to create a sense of movement in the design.
Unity is created through a set of art elements that complement each other well to create harmony. To achieve unity when constructing exhibition booth, you should establish a design guideline from the start.
A skillful application of design principles would significantly improve your booth’s appearance at VIIF 2024.
